After replacing the engine, my Sambar finally got going again, but the day before yesterday, when I took it for a test drive, the “POWER TRAIN” light came on, which left me wondering what was wrong.
Since it’s a warning message from the ECU, the correct procedure was to first ask the ECU, so I searched the internet for instructions.
As it’s an old car, I found a lot of information.
A test coupler like the one in the photo is located on the left side of the driver’s feet, near the heater.
There are black and green couplers, and when neither is connected, it’s U mode, which is normal driving mode.
Apparently, connecting the black coupler (1 pole) puts the car into read memory mode.
This displays any error information recorded in the ECU.
I immediately tried a read memory check.
- Connect the black coupler (1 pole).
- Turn the ignition key switch to the ON position. (The engine will not start.)
- Check that the “POWER TRAIN” light is flashing.
A long light indicates the tens digit. The short lights are in the ones digit. Count the number of times each light occurs.
This time, there were two long lights, followed by two short lights.
Apparently, this represents error code 22.
I looked it up online and found that error code 22 is related to the knock sensor (open or short).
