Engine replacement -4- Head block removal, GD-TT2

SUBARU SAMBER

Since the spark plug had melted, I was curious to know what was inside the cylinder.

First, I removed the head cover.
There was a considerable amount of sludge.
Maybe the previous owner didn’t take very good care of the oil.

I removed the head block from the cylinder block.

I had imagined that the inner walls of the cylinder would be roughened by melted debris, but surprisingly the cylinder was still in good condition.

And here’s the head.

Intake valves #2 and #3 were chipped. Bam! (^_^;)

I thought the melted material would fall down and cause damage to the lower valves, but it ended up interfering with the upper valves.
I wonder what was happening inside the high-speed cylinder…

This is head number 1.
For now, there doesn’t seem to be any visible damage.

The compression I measured before removing the engine was 750kPa, so there might be something there, or the piston rings might be worn.

This is head number 3.
The intake valve is missing, but there is no visible damage to the exhaust valve.
The plug is less melted than number 2, but still severe.
The valve damage is less severe than number 2, but I wonder why it’s different from number 2?

The compression measured before removing the engine was zero, just like number 2, but this is a natural number.

This is the head of number 4.
As with number 1, there doesn’t seem to be any visible damage for the time being.

The compression measured before removing the engine was also 750kPa, the same as number 1.
There could be something wrong, or the piston rings could be worn.

Here’s another photo of the missing part.
I wonder what happened to make it look like this… (^_^;)
